  • Mediations: A conversation between two or more people facilitated by a neutral third party. Our Safety and Community Care Staff will provide a space for all parties to speak and ensure that a civil discussion can take place. The participants will determine their own outcome, and the staff member will ensure that all parties agree upon the solution.
  • Conflict Coaching: A one-on-one conversation with a Safety and Community Care staff member to help improve an individual's ability to manage conflicts. Our staff may coach a student to consider new perspectives, provide tools for initiating conversations and create an unbiased space for sharing frustrations.
  • Facilitation: Like a mediator, Safety and Community Care Staff create a space for a group of people to share their thoughts and fosters an environment where all voices are heard and valued.

Conflict is inevitable and can evoke a range of emotions that influence our actions. Our staff encourages you to find the best outcome based on your situation, ensuring fairness and helping you find your own solutions.

What can I expect during a mediation?

Our Safety and Community Care Staff will:

  • Find a space where all parties are comfortable talking.
  • Set ground rules to ensure a respectful process.
  • Act as a neutral party and assist both participants in expressing their points of view, interests and goals of the mediation.
  • Encourage participants to explore solutions to the identified issues and determine a path forward toward a potential agreement.
Is the process confidential?

The process is semi-confidential, involving only the necessary parties based on the information shared. Our Safety and Community Care Staff will not share any information casually and will not share the information beyond documenting that the conversation happened.

While the mediation is private, our staff are "responsible employees". They must report any information regarding sexual assault, discrimination, suicidal ideation, and threats of harm. You may need to speak with KSUPD, the Title IX office, or SRVVS based on your situation.
